Community Constable

Welcome to Martin Sanderson – Community Constable for Massey/Ranui/Swanson
July
2013

Marty Sanderson is our new community constable and took over from previous community constable Lorena McCabe in April. He is based at the Massey Police Station and comes to the role after more than 6 years in the Police.

He aims to be an old style policeman where he is known by his community. He has spent the first 3 months getting to know his new patch and identifying hot spots in the area. No two days are the same and he believe the success to his role will be learning who specific stakeholders are ranging from government agencies, church and community groups and local schools and being able to build positive relationships with them.

He enjoys problem solving and prefers engaging with the community to prevent crime rather than taking a reactive approach.

Of a day, Marty deals with email enquiries, mediating in neighbourhood disputes, developing crime prevention strategies and working with volunteers. Community Patrols is one area he is involved in. There are two in his area; Ranui/Swanson/Waitakere and another in Henderson Valley. Two more are in the process of being set up in Te Atatu and Waiatarua.

Off duty Marty’s passion is his family and his environment. He is a member of Friends of Arataki, Friends of Whatipu, Greenpeace and Waitakere Forest & Bird. He and his partner enjoying taking part in tree planting and beach clean ups. They moved out west to New Lynn about 10 years ago and say taking care of the environment is important to both of them especially with their first child on the way.

If you would like to contact Marty you can call him on his new Police mobility device on (09) 213 8110 or 021 194118. Volunteers also cover the office at the Ranui Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 2pm.:
